President Trump announced Saturday that he will nominate retired Oklahoma State Trooper Lance Schroyer to be the new director of ICE, calling him a patriot with experience locking up “the worst of the worst.” "Lance has over 29 YEARS of law enforcement experience in Oklahoma," Trump wrote in Truth Social, noting that he won every county in the state in three successive elections.

The agency has not had a Senate-confirmed director since 2017, amid angry partisan clashes over immigration enforcement.

Trump called Schroyer a “PATRIOT with real operational experience and a proven leader with DECADES of experience locking up the worst of the worst, including spearheading 287g partnerships between law enforcement and ICE!” He noted Schoyer's firsthand experience taking “illegal aliens off our streets” and said, like Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, “LOVE the men and women of ICE.” Mullin, whom the Senate confirmed as Homeland Security secretary, stepped in after Trump ousted his predecessor Kristi Noem.

Former acting ICE Director Todd Lyons announced his resignation in April, following the shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti in January amid anti-ICE protests.

Trump called on the Senate, on recess for the week of July 4, to confirm Schroyer immediately.

President Trump on Friday revealed the inside of the new US passport, which shows his own image adorning a page in front of the Declaration of Independence, while warning those coming to the United States to behave appropriately.

“America's new passport, which says, 'Welcome, but be nice!' President DJT,” Trump wrote in a Truth Social post accompanied by the image.

An image on one page shows Trump looking stern over his signature, while another page features a mockup of the Founding Fathers signing the Declaration of Independence, with “United States of America 250” written below.

Fox News Digital previously reported that the State Department would release limited-edition U.S.

passports to commemorate the 250th anniversary of American independence, with Trump prominently featured.

The passports are scheduled to be released this summer and are part of the Trump administration's broader “America 250” celebration, which also includes a Grand Prix race on the National Mall in August and a UFC fight on the South Lawn of the White House that took place earlier this month.

A State Department official previously told Fox News Digital that the new designs will be available to “any U.S.

citizen” who applies for a passport during the launch and will continue as long as there is availability.

Horrified Air Canada passengers began praying when their pilot suffered an apparent seizure and the plane swerved violently before the flight made an emergency landing at Boston's Logan Airport.

Witness Rodney McDonald said it appeared the pilot of the flight, operated by Air Canada regional partner PAL Airlines, appeared to have a seizure after the plane left Newark, New Jersey, at 12:39 p.m.

On Wednesday.

"The moment the plane turned, I knew something was wrong because it wasn't turbulence," McDonald told ABC News.

McDonald said he, his wife and two children were among the 61 customers aboard the flight bound for Halifax, Canada.

"The flight started to veer violently.

It really felt like someone had abandoned the controls and then it happened again and again," he added.

"And, you know, every thought goes through your mind, you start praying.

My kids started praying instantly." The father was initially separated from the rest of his family on the plane, a twin-turboprop Havilland Dash 8-400, before rushing to help the injured captain, who had been dragged out of the cabin by a flight attendant.

"I sat down with them again and then realized that the pilot was out of control physically, not violently, as if it was clear that he was not in control of his faculties and needed to be restrained.

We worked to control him, it was a pretty grueling 40 minutes keeping him down and using as many seat belts as we could to restrain his legs, arms and chest." Police and airport officials were alerted at 1:40 p.m.

and the plane landed in Boston Logan shortly before 2 p.m., according to data from FlightAware.

"The pilot is incapacitated.

The co-pilot is flying the plane," the Broadcastify audio, obtained by ABC, revealed.

Air traffic controllers at Boston Logan warned other pilots that their runway 27 would be out of service due to "an incoming emergency," the Canadian Press reported.

"During the flight, the captain experienced a medical issue and was removed from the flight deck in accordance with safety protocols," Air Canada told The Post, without specifying the emergency.

"The first officer took control of the plane and diverted the flight to Boston, where it landed safely," the company added.

Ambulances surrounded the plane after it landed and the plane was towed to a gate.

Kansas City police believe they have found the body of the gunman suspected of killing a person in a series of highway shootings Wednesday inside the burned basement of a relative's home, where police searched days earlier.

Oscar Sanchez-Muñoz, 22, was wanted for allegedly shooting at a motor vehicle on June 11 in Wyandotte County, Kansas, and had an outstanding warrant in the same county for aggravated assault, which carries a $100,000 bond, according to the FBI.

He was also the main suspect in five shootings on June 16 along Interstate 70 in Kansas City, Missouri, just a few miles from Arrowhead Stadium, where several FIFA World Cup matches were being held.

Police said Sánchez-Muñoz's relatives found a body Wednesday in the basement of the Independence, Missouri, home.

The body was wearing clothing that matched that of Sánchez Muñoz, who police believed had initially escaped during a fire that broke out in the middle of the June 16 standoff, Kansas City police Capt.

Jake Becchina said, according to KMBC.

Law enforcement had searched the home during the investigation after the standoff, but it was nearly impossible to thoroughly search the basement, flooded with water after the fire and filled with furniture and trash.

"At the end of the fire, there were several feet of water inside the basement, that night and into the next day," Becchina said, calling it "one of the most congested basements" he has seen in his law enforcement career.

"There was enough debris there that you couldn't get up.

Piles.

It was piles of stuff." He also noted that the staircase leading to the basement had collapsed in the fire and that investigators had to “jump” down to search.

The family had returned to the home several times since the confrontation and fire, and it was while sifting through piles of debris that they noticed the smell of decomposition, which led them to the remains before contacting police, Becchina said.

He added that the body was out of sight, under the mess and that a “significant amount” of manpower was needed to clear debris from the body.

Homicide detectives and the Jackson County Medical Examiner are conducting a death investigation to confirm the body of Sanchez Muñoz and the cause of death.

The Sánchez-Muñoz shooting left one person dead (Jeremy Keenan, who died after being shot and crashing his car into a pole) and left another with serious injuries, News Nation reported.

Many other victims, including an Uber driver who was shot in the leg while driving fans to the World Cup match between Argentina and Algeria, are expected to recover.

After the shootings, police allegedly tracked Sánchez Muñoz to his family home in Independence, where a standoff ensued that lasted hours before the house caught fire.

Police initially believed Sánchez Muñoz had escaped during the fire, prompting a nationwide search led by the FBI's Kansas City field office, which offered a $25,000 reward for information leading to his arrest.

Sánchez-Muñoz's mother and stepfather told NewsNation that their son had recently shown signs of a mental health problem, and his mother said she believed it might be schizophrenia.

His mother said they tried to commit him to a mental health facility, but he did not want to enter voluntarily.

Keenan's mother said her son's death had devastated her, but said she understands his alleged killer was struggling with mental health issues.

"Hopefully it sheds light on mental health," Debra Keenan told the outlet.

Police are investigating a violent confrontation involving a downtown Los Angeles street vendor after a shocking attack was captured on video and shared widely on social media.

The incident occurred near Figueroa and 7th streets, where Arabelia Martínez was working at her food stand when an argument with another woman led to a brutal physical attack.

A video posted online shows the dispute beginning at Martinez's booth.

The unidentified woman can be seen pouring hot sauce over the vendor's hot dogs, damaging the food she was selling.

Martinez then appears to throw red powder at the woman, causing a rapid escalation.

The images show the suspect advancing towards Martínez while the salesman tries to back away.

Moments later, the couple falls to the ground, where the woman repeatedly punches Martínez in the back of the head.

Several passersby run in and try to separate the two women.

But the violence does not end there.

As Martinez is helped to his feet and begins to walk away, the video shows the woman running up behind him and launching a second attack.

The suspect appears to punch Martinez in the head and face before grabbing her by the hair and dragging her back to the ground as horrified witnesses watch.

The victim's family believes the confrontation may have been motivated by racism.

Martinez's son said the woman began harassing his mother while she was selling food, allegedly telling her to go back to Mexico and making other racist comments before the attack.

In the wake of the assault, Martinez's family launched a GoFundMe campaign that had raised more than $97,000 toward its $120,000 goal as of Wednesday.

“My name is Constantino García and I am raising funds for my mom, Arabelia Martínez, a beautiful, hard-working street vendor in downtown Los Angeles who was tragically attacked earlier this week,” García wrote on the fundraising page.

He said the money would help cover therapy, recovery time away from work and replacement of damaged equipment and supplies.

“The assault not only left her physically and emotionally shaken, but also resulted in damage to the items she works so hard to maintain,” García wrote.

Witness Sebastián Gutiérrez, an Uber Eats delivery driver, said the attack was one of the worst incidents he has seen in the area.

"It was horrible.

It really made me angry to witness that.

Worse than many others.

I've seen other times people being attacked, and everything here, but it really feels so bad.

It's like there was no reason to do that at all," Gutierrez told ABC7.

Gutierrez said the woman appeared to be suffering from mental health issues or possibly being under the influence of alcohol.

"And then I see her suddenly push every item out of at least one of these vendor stands.

Dozens of cups of fruit, an entire cart of hot dogs," he said.

Authorities have not announced any arrests and the investigation remains ongoing.

The video has sparked outrage online, with many expressing support for Martinez and calling for those responsible to be held accountable.

This is the terrifying moment a California fisherwoman was swept into the ocean by a powerful sneaker wave.

Bae Cadotte, a 47-year-old Pacifica resident, was fishing off the beach south of the Pacifica Pier on Tuesday when the water hit, knocking her over and dragging her about 30 feet from shore.

A webcam captured the terrifying moment when the wave hit Cadotte and swept her into the surf.

"I felt like I was spinning around in a washing machine," Cadotte told ABC.

She described the wave coming without warning and said she immediately realized the danger she was in.

“It just swallowed me up,” he said.

"At that moment I knew she had come, I was going in.

She was going to get me.

There's no way I'm getting out of this." Carried away by the water, Cadotte decided not to fight the immense force of the wave and instead surrendered her fate to a higher power.

“I closed my eyes, I said a prayer: God, if this is your will, I understand, but please don't let me leave my son,” she said.

Cadotte eventually resurfaced after several minutes in the water.

Nearby fishermen rushed to help her, throwing her a rope and pulling her back to shore.

“Thank you for risking your life to save mine,” he told them later.

First responders arrived shortly after and took Cadotte to Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital, where she was treated for hypothermia.

Other ocean rescues have also been reported recently.

A mother and her daughter were swept into the waves at Baker Beach in San Francisco, but were rescued.

Two Bay Area college students died after being swept into the ocean in Santa Cruz.

In Southern California, the danger also became clear after the body of 5-year-old Amada Mia Brown was recovered after a powerful wave swept her family into the ocean in Laguna Beach.

These waves are especially common along steep, deep coastlines, including parts of the Pacific Northwest and northern California.

Sneaker waves are unusually large coastal waves that can emerge on a beach much higher than expected.

They are difficult to predict and can appear even on calm, sunny days without warning.

Some researchers estimate that about three out of every 10,000 waves in the ocean reach “rogue wave” or sneaker wave status.

Former mob hitman turned suburban New Jersey councilman John Alite has been arrested on loan sharking charges.

The 63-year-old former Gambino family enforcer and former confidant of John Gotti Jr.

was arrested Friday on multiple charges of theft by racketeering, corporate misconduct, loan sharking and terroristic threats, according to the New Jersey State Attorney General.

Wild Ring camera footage from the moments before the arrest showed a squad of New Jersey police officers in SWAT gear marching down the quiet street of Englishtown, New Jersey, shortly after 5 a.m., on their way to Alite's home.

Stephen Locrotondo, 67, of Bridgewater New Jersey, was also arrested and charged with loan sharking and conspiracy as part of the alleged scheme.

"Our office is dedicated to ensuring that all businesses behave fairly and lawfully.

The conduct alleged in this case was anything but, and we will work to hold those who cheat and steal accountable," Attorney General Jennifer Davenport said in a statement Saturday.

The former hitman, who handled six murders and many other serious crimes in 2008, had apparently turned the page and was appointed to a vacant Englishtown council seat last year.

"You know what? I can really do some good.

I've already had a bad past and I'm here to redeem my whole life, and I'd like to go out and do everything in a positive way," Alite told The Post after being appointed in March 2025.

His fellow Englishtown City Council members expressed surprise that Alite had been detained by state police.

"I have absolutely no idea what this is about, so I can't comment.

I can tell you I'm shocked because he's been an excellent citizen and council member," Councilwoman Janet Leonardis told NJ.com.

Englishtown Mayor Daniel Francisco also refrained from jumping to conclusions and expressed lukewarm support for Alite.

"Every American has the right to due process, including John.

I will not rush to judgment before the facts are known, and he has the right to a presumption of innocence while the judicial process unfolds," Francisco told NJ.com.

Alite was sentenced to 10 years in 2011, but was released in 2012 on supervised release after becoming a cooperating witness.

Gotti Jr., who was a close friend of Alite in the '80s and '90s, had harsh words for Alite in 2016, telling The Post, "He's one of the brashest human beings God has ever created...He uses Gotti's thing to further his career."

President Trump redoubled his attacks on Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni on Saturday, claiming that she “wants to be friends again.” “Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni asked, again and again, for a photo with me during the G-7 meeting in France,” the president insisted on Truth Social, days after the Italian leader denied Trump's claim that she had “begged” him for a photo.

“He is doing poorly in Italy with his level of popularity, possibly because he rejected the United States of America, a country that truly loves and protects Italy, when it came to denying Iran the acquisition or development of a nuclear weapon (but so did NATO!),” Trump wrote.

Meloni "wouldn't even let us use Italy's landing strips" to attack Iran," he added.

"Now, after the United States militarily defeated Iran, she wants to be friends again to 'increase her numbers.' "No thanks!!!" he wrote.

The diplomatic rift began at the G7 meetings in Evian-les-Bains, France, when the president told a journalist from the Italian channel La7 TV last week that Meloni “desperately wanted a photo with me” and stated that he “felt sorry for her.” “I don't know why the president of the United States behaves this way with his allies; "This is certainly not the first time this has happened," Melonti responded in a video statement.

Meloni said she was "frankly surprised" by the president's claim and called Trump's comments "made up." Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani rejected a planned visit to the United States that had been set for next week in the wake of the dispute.

Trump and Meloni had good relations when she came to power in 2022 as head of the right-wing populist Brotherhood party.

Type 2 diabetes patients taking Ozempic and Wegovy may be getting an unexpected benefit: a little more courage.

A new study suggests that semaglutide, the active ingredient in hit weight-loss drugs, could help strengthen bones in those with type 2 diabetes, even while shedding pounds, according to a report in Science Daily.

Researchers found that patients with type 2 diabetes taking semaglutide were 15% less likely to suffer bone fractures than patients using other popular weight-loss medications.

This is a surprising turn, as many experts were concerned that rapid weight loss could leave bones more brittle.

Semaglutide users not only lost more weight than patients taking competing treatments, but they also appeared to be less likely to break a bone, said the researchers, led by Dr.

Jairo Noreña, a former endocrinology fellow at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California.

The research team examined the medical records of more than 59,000 adults with type 2 diabetes.

Among the 26,324 semaglutide users, the researchers recorded 794 fractures.

The comparison group (33,555 patients taking other weight-loss medications) suffered a whopping 1,045 fractures.

The findings were released at ENDO 2026, the Endocrine Society's annual meeting in Chicago, which took place June 13-16.

The conference brought together thousands of professionals in hormonal science and medicine.

The findings have real-world implications, particularly for the millions of older adults taking weight-loss medications who may already be at risk for bone loss.

"Bone fractures are painful, costly and can seriously affect quality of life, especially as people age," Noreña said.

"We hope this study encourages monitoring of bone health in weight loss programs.

This work is an important first step toward understanding the impact of semaglutide-induced weight loss on bone health in patients with type 2 diabetes."

Long before Jeffrey Epstein became the world's most famous sex offender, he committed an act that foreshadowed a lifetime of manipulating women, and his first victim was his own mother.

According to a researcher examining Epstein's early years, the disgraced financier's pattern of exploiting women began decades before his sex trafficking empire collapsed.

“His mother Paula adored him,” CUNY sociology professor Thomas Volscho, who is researching a book about wealthy sex traffickers, told The Post.

"His parents were remembered as hard-working and well-loved people from a simple Brooklyn family." However, one of the first documented controversies involving Epstein centered on him leaving his family in the lurch while he was a student at New York University.

According to a May 1976 Fidelifacts report, New York University took Epstein to civil court in December 1975 after receiving an invalid tuition payment.

"He wrote a check on his mother's checking account to cover his tuition and the check bounced," Volscho told New York University's Washington Square News student newspaper.

“When NYU sent a debt collector to his address, his brother answered the door and said he had gone to Europe and then coughed up about three or four hundred dollars of the thousand-something dollars owed.” The NYU lawsuit was later settled, but the incident is an early glimpse into a pattern that would define Epstein's life.

Survivors revealed that Epstein, who dropped out of New York University without a degree and lied to potential employer Bear Stearns about his education, repeatedly used promises of admission and payment of tuition at New York University and other elite institutions to lure and control his victims, according to the House Judiciary Committee.

He offered the prospect of an education to draw young women into his orbit, and in some cases he or his associates would secure scholarships or pay tuition fees and then threaten to withdraw their funding if they did not meet his demands.

As despicable as Epstein's manipulation tactics were, he was the grand master of them.

Even after his mother died, he exploited her for his own benefit.

On August 9, 2019, after meeting with his attorneys at New York's Metropolitan Correctional Center, prison staff allowed Epstein to make, in violation of policy, an unrecorded, unmonitored phone call before he was returned to his cell, according to a report from the Justice Department's Office of Inspector General.

Epstein said he was calling his mother, Paula Epstein, but she had been dead for 15 years.

He was actually calling his girlfriend.

Guards found him dead in his cell the next morning and his death was ruled a suicide.

His mother never lived to see his conviction in 2008 or the global scandal that would follow.

Friends remembered her as a devoted mother who worked while raising her children with her husband Seymour Epstein, who died in 1991.

She died in April 2004 at age 85, just before the initial police investigation into her son's activities in Palm Beach began, and was buried at the Star of David Cemetery in West Paul Beach, Florida, with her husband.

In yet another blow, the names on the family crypt were removed to deter protesters and vandals following Jeffrey's death, according to Find A Grave Memorial.

“The irony,” Volscho added, “is how two loving parents can produce such a monster.”

My mother came on a boat from Greece looking for the American dream.

She was very, very young when she came here [and] she was told the streets would be paved in gold...she found out that wasn't the case when she got here.

I was married to my father; Unfortunately, he turned out to be a lazy father.

When I was about five years old, my mother had some medical problems.

So for about five years, my brother and I were in foster care in East Los Angeles.

But we were one of the lucky ones because we got to see our mom over the weekend.

Unfortunately, others in the foster home were not in the same situation.

Nobody ever visited them.

My mom was so big that she invited any child who wanted to come with us during the holidays to come.

We had a great mom.

She always told my brother and me, “No matter what, you guys can do it”… And by God, we sure did it.

We had no money, no money.

But we didn't know it.

We didn't have television, we didn't have newspapers to read.

[But] we thought we had it all.

And my mom was the best mom.

We returned home when I was nine and a half years old.

Finally he bought a small house for us to live in.

And one Friday weekend, Mom said, "Let's put all our money together.

I'll show you something." We had 27 cents.

I will never forget it.

All of us together had 27 cents.

And Mom told us, "Boys, what is it to be rich? We are very rich because we are happy and we are all healthy.

Willard Gary Black, 85, has been charged with second-degree murder in the Wednesday shooting death of Robert Roger Arguelles, who was struck in the chest and back, Queen City News reported.

The shooting occurred at Old Hickory Tannery, where Arguelles and Black co-owned the business.

Court records show that that same day, Black was ordered to pay Arguelles $310,882.74 after a contract dispute between the two men, Court TV reported.

In 2018, Black sold 49.9% of the shares in his business to Argüelles.

However, Argüelles said he had loaned Black $280,000, of which only $23,876.19 was returned, the news outlet reported.

Both men reached an agreement to settle the lawsuit for $310,882.74, but after filing paperwork with the court, Black attempted to withdraw his consent.

On Wednesday, a judge denied his request and ordered Black to pay Arguelles, 59, the original settlement amount.

Hours later, both men got into an argument at the business, which led to the shooting, authorities said.

Police officers arrived and attempted to save Arguelles, who died at the scene.

Arguelles had served as an Alexander County Schools board member since 2022.

In a statement, district superintendent Bill Griffin described Arguelles as an “incredible father, husband and board member who has faithfully supported our school system for nearly four years.” "In honor of his memory, our district fully supports and respects the family's privacy as they navigate this profound loss," he added.

An unpaid City Council intern claimed she was fired after demanding that she and her co-workers be paid $32 an hour, nearly double the Big Apple's current minimum wage.

Mina Farahmand, a legislative intern in Manhattan Councilman Harvey Epstein's office, said she was fired Wednesday after she sent Council President Julie Menin a petition signed by 32 of her peers seeking “a living wage,” City & State reported.

“I was fired from @NYCCouncil yesterday for organizing as an unpaid intern after I sent a petition to the president on Tuesday to pay all interns,” Farahmand said in an X post on Thursday.

The petition called for “the creation of a dedicated fund to ensure that all unpaid interns working in council members' offices can receive a living wage of $32 an hour,” City & State reported in its Heard About Town newsletter.

The city's minimum hourly wage is about half that, at $17, although leftist council members proposed earlier this year raising it to $30 an hour.

Farahmand, a New York University graduate, according to her LinkedIn, said she had also confronted Menin at a Youth Civic Summit on Monday to ask him to support salaries, the outlet reported.

A senior staff member in Epstein's office informed her late this week that her "volunteer" position had ended, even though she was supposed to work in the office until July, she claimed.

The union representing municipal workers said in a statement that it wanted a “fair and thorough review of the situation.” “We are concerned by reports that New York City Council intern Mina Farahmand was fired from Councilman Harvey Epstein's office after publicly advocating for increased funding and better conditions for interns,” the executive board of the Legislative Employees Association said.

"Everyone should be able to speak out and defend themselves without fear of retaliation." Menin's office said in a statement to the Post on Friday that it was "already reviewing policies for internships within Council members' offices, and those conversations are ongoing." Decisions about hiring and firing interns are made at the discretion of each board member, a source said.

Farahmand shared a screenshot of the City & State topic on A senior official in Epstein's office told The Post that Farahmand was not fired because of the letter, but declined to provide further details.

A surprising number of students at the elite UC Berkeley School of Law claim to have a “psychological” or other mental disability, according to university data, leading critics to accuse students of trying to game the system to give themselves more time for their exams.

There are 378 law students in UC Berkeley's Disabled Students Program, about a third of enrollment.

This marks a huge change from just five years ago, when only 3% of Berkeley graduate students reported having a disability.

Across the university, the number of students in the disability program has steadily increased, rising from 4,153 in 2020 to 5,711 last year.

The school claims to be "one of the first campuses in the US to begin welcoming students with disabilities." The main types of disabilities on campus are classified as psychological or emotional disorders, as well as ADHD.

The number of claims for physical disability is significantly lower.

Critics say the figures show a “farce” on the part of students to take advantage of educators' thoughtful considerations to gain an advantage in school.

The numbers are absurd, said Andrew Testerman, a law school graduate who examined the numbers.

“At Berkeley Law, there are more disabled law students than male law students,” said Berkeley Law student Andrew Testerman, who analyzed the numbers.

"We are asked to believe that students at elite law schools are much more likely to have disabilities than our nation's seniors." Disability status unfairly gives students advantages, Testerman said.

For example, those classified as disabled had much more time to take the exams.

According to university data, requests for supervision services to accommodate disabilities have skyrocketed from fewer than 4,000 in 2021-2022 to more than 14,000 in 2024-2025.

Teachers and other critics have criticized disability accommodations as unreliable and gaming the system.

“Many people have told me that this is how the rich scam the system to help their children,” a computer science teacher at a West Coast state school who asked to remain anonymous told The Post.

Giving these students more time for their exams is supposedly “fair, but it's just the opposite,” added George Leef of the higher education think tank James G.

Martin Center for Academic Renewal.

“This is even more absurd when you realize that most law school students come from successful families and have achieved good results throughout their years of education,” he explained.

"Apparently the 'social justice' world means we can't have fair exams." UC Berkeley's disability program was apparently intended to address physical disabilities when it was first created.

But in 1982, the word "physical" was dropped from its name to encompass learning disabilities, according to the school's website.

It is in line with the school's diversity programming, where a disability is formally treated as a diversity classification, according to the university's Diversity, Equity and Inclusion data dashboard.

Other schools across the country have seen similar trends.

At nearby Stanford University, for example, 38% of students have registered with the Office of Accessible Education.

Even high school students seem to lean toward the “con.” The number of high school students receiving extra time on college entrance exams has more than tripled in the last decade.

Berkeley Law Dean Erwin Chemerinsky told Testerman that the law school has no authority over accommodations and simply compensates.

A teenager has been charged with attempted murder in a broad daylight shooting spree that sent tourists scrambling in Times Square, police said Friday, as sources revealed the terrifying incident may have stemmed from a gang dispute.

The 17-year-old was also charged with assault, criminal possession of a weapon, reckless endangerment and unlawful possession of an ammunition feeding device at 3:30 p.m.

Chaos Thursday at West 44th Street and Broadway, police said.

Wild video showed at least two people dressed in black opening fire with what appear to be handguns as they entered the intersection packed with tourists.

No one was hurt by gunfire during the shocking melee, but a bullet hit a car, police and witnesses said.

The young suspect, whose name was not released because he is a minor, was quickly captured by police after a brief foot chase, and a Glock pistol was recovered, law enforcement sources said.

Investigators were looking into whether the shootings were due to bitter gang rivalry, sources said.

Police could not say Friday whether they were looking for other suspects in the shooting.

Witnesses reported hearing around five gunshots, while wild video captured dozens of people running for cover.

“One guy shot another guy and the police caught him,” a witness, who declined to give his name, told The Post.

"I didn't hear any fighting, I just heard gunshots.

"Five gunshots.

Bang bang bang bang bang.

People started running.

Everyone took cover.

Once they apprehended him, everything returned to normal.

Now we're here eating cold shish kabab." Another witness called the timing "unfortunate," hours after New Yorkers celebrated the Knicks' long-awaited NBA Championship victory along the Canyon of Heroes in Lower Manhattan.

"This is supposed to be the best day here in New York," the viewer said.

"The Knicks took the W, that's all we ever wanted for 53 years."

Giving the hazelnut its due in New Jersey is proving to be a tough nut to crack.

A proposal to designate the hazelnut as the official Garden State nut has received mixed reviews from lawmakers, some of whom are slamming the “stupid” plan because the nut has only been growing in the state for less than a decade.

However, those in favor argue that the name would be more of an “ode” to the research efforts focused on creating a vibrant hazelnut industry in the state decades after the nut was virtually wiped out by disease.

The state Assembly voted last week for legislation to make the designation official, but opponents were angry because hazelnuts have only been grown commercially in New Jersey since 2020, after a decades-long effort by farmers, researchers and lawmakers.

Assemblyman Sterley Stanley, the bill's author, called hazelnuts “a true scientific breakthrough that reinforces why we are known as the Garden State” during the legislative session, during which the bill passed the Assembly by a vote of 58-15, according to NJ.com.

“Why do we need a crazy state?” Assemblyman Brian Bergen asked during the session.

“This stupid, horrible, stupid, crazy, nutty legislation shouldn't even be put up for a vote today.” Other opponents, like Assemblywoman Aura K.

Dunn, asked whether the hazelnut is really worthy of standing next to tried-and-true Jersey agricultural staples like corn, tomatoes, peaches and blueberries, which have been New Jersey's official state fruit since 2004.

"Is the hazelnut really the proven nut?" he asked in the session.

Only a handful of hazelnuts, also known as hazelnuts, are native to New Jersey, and only 5% of commercial hazelnuts come from the United States.

Türkiye is by far the world's largest producer, producing around 70% of the world's supply.

Eastern hazelnut blight, a fungal disease that is lethal to commercially grown European hazelnut trees, has made much of the United States inhospitable to the nuts.

But a team of Rutgers researchers has been working to change that, and after more than 30 years released the state's first blight-resistant hazelnuts in 2020.

Thanks to their efforts, New Jersey is now the only state on the East Coast where farmers are growing Nutella's main ingredient, and some commercial operations have already begun.

"If we could find resistance to this disease...we could create a whole new industry," Rutgers associate professor of plant biology Thomas Molnar told NJ.com.

Molnar and other supporters of the bill believe that anointing the hazelnut as New Jersey's state nut could elevate the humble hazelnut to a viable and profitable cash crop in the state.

"We could spark, you know, a broader understanding of the issue and maybe more investment in the state," Molnar told the outlet.

However, critics of the Assembly believe that the appointment is not all it is cracked up to be.

"It's not what we should be doing in Trenton in a voting session," Bergen told NJ.com.

"We should take care of the big issues that the state needs us to do."

A controversial leftist congressional candidate from New York is offering covered World Cup tickets to campaign volunteers (and free ice cream to early voters), apparently violating federal election laws and potentially FIFA, The Post has learned.

Experts said the gifts offered by Darializa Avila Chevalier's insurgent campaign appear to violate Federal Electoral Commission guidelines that strictly prohibit rewarding volunteers with benefits and offering payments, including free food, in exchange for voter participation.

"It looks like they're paying people to vote, which, of course, is illegal," said Fordham Law professor Jerry Goldfeder.

The campaign of the Democratic Socialists of America challenger, who is running to unseat veteran Rep.

Adriano Espaillat in New York's House District 13, posted the ice cream deal on Instagram Thursday.

“Ice cream for NY-13 early voters!” The emoji-ridden post read, with instructions: "Vote early and keep your sticker!" On Friday the 19th, come to a poll in West, Central, or East Harlem and show your sticker to one of our field leaders for a Sugar Hill Creamery token.

Use the token at Sugar Hill Creamery to get a free cup of ice cream!! It adds: "*Toppings, cones or other extras at additional cost," along with a red heart emoji.

A day earlier, Avila Chevalier, on his official X campaign account, announced that four volunteers would have the opportunity to win prized seats for the Panama vs.

Panama World Cup match.

England on June 27.

“Ask Darializa for a chance to win tickets for prime seats at the World Cup,” the post read, instructing volunteers to collect trading cards for each campaign shift completed in exchange for entering the raffle.

Paying or offering an expense or gift in exchange for voting is a federal crime.

The Department of Justice defines a “payment” as anything that has monetary value, such as free food.

The FEC also sets strict rules when it comes to campaign volunteers, making clear that the moment an unpaid worker receives a gift or transfer of monetary value, the organization is no longer legally considered a volunteer.

"The campaign cannot pay admission to sporting events, concerts, theater and other forms of entertainment," the rules page on the FEC website states.

It is unclear whether Avila Chevalier's campaign paid for both the World Cup tickets and the Sugar Hill Creamery tokens, as recent transactions were not immediately publicly available.

But the campaign promoting and offering gifts alone could potentially violate FEC rules.

"They're rules for you but not for me.

Either they don't know the rules or they don't care," said Chris Coffey, a partner at the political consulting firm Tusk Strategies.

"Still, if the other side was giving away impossible-to-get World Cup tickets, they would be leading protests in front of his (Espaillat's) office," Coffey said of Avila Chevalier's opponent.

"Candidates should be careful about incentivizing volunteer work through stunts like this," another Democrat said.

operative, who declined to be identified.

"It fits the bill perfectly." Avila Chevalier's campaign did not respond to requests for comment, nor did FIFA and Sugar Hill Creamery.

Avila Chevalier, who was endorsed by Mayor Zohran Mamdani in the June 23 Democratic primary, is a doctoral candidate who provides legal aid as part of her work as a researcher at the Legal Aid Society.

The confetti had barely settled after Thursday's Knicks championship parade when the celebration moved behind some of Manhattan's most exclusive doors.

Fresh off their historic title run, the Knicks celebrated at a mix of invitation-only nightclubs, celebrity-filled private social clubs and restaurants so exclusive that even getting a reservation can feel like winning a championship.

From members-only hideaways with five-figure initiation fees to a Midtown steakhouse where a table can require weeks of planning (and a little luck), these are the elite venues where the city's newest champions celebrated.

This is what mere mortals will really need to get a seat.

Just hours after more than 1 million fans packed Lower Manhattan for the championship parade, the Knicks MVPs traded floats for a fine dinner at Chez Margaux, the ultra-exclusive members club hidden in the Meatpacking District.

The new Keys to the City holders (Josh Hart, Karl-Anthony Towns, OG Anunoby, Miles McBride and Landry Shamet) celebrated in a curtained VIP section at 403 W 13th St.

Meanwhile, DJ Mark Ronson spun records and chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten's kitchen kept the caviar and cocktails flowing.

The menu reportedly included crispy hash browns topped with caviar, spicy lobster lumache, black truffle pizza, and a Knicks-themed Devil's Food Cake.

For those looking to have some Knick-style fun, you'd better start saving.

Annual memberships at the bougie club start at $3,000 for those under 30 and $4,000 for everyone else, plus initiation fees of up to $3,000.

Big spenders can get a $25,000 executive membership, which comes with VIP perks like priority reservations, passes for additional guests, and the ability to host private events.

Before the citywide parade, another celebration unfolded at the Flyfish Club on the Lower East Side, The Post reported.

On June 14, the private dining club — originally launched as the world's first NFT restaurant, meaning a unique digital token is required to secure access, before opening traditional memberships — hosted much of the Knicks roster.

It was a champagne-fueled championship party with a performance by A Boogie Wit Da Hoodie.

Jalen Brunson, Karl-Anthony Towns, Josh Hart, Mikal Bridges and almost the entire championship team celebrated at 141 E Houston St.

alongside family, friends and Yankees star Jazz Chisholm Jr.

Sort of.

Membership is currently full, according to the club's website, so your only option is to join the waitlist.

If your application is accepted, junior memberships start with a $700 initiation fee plus $2,300 annually.

Standard memberships cost $2,500 to join and $3,500 each year after that.

If you didn't see the Knicks in Zero Bond, you probably saw someone almost as famous.

According to TMZ, Taylor Swift, Hailey Bieber, Tate McRae, Sombr and the Haim sisters hit the NoHo members' club at 0 Bond St.

after Game 4, turning the already exclusive hotspot into one of the most star-studded after-parties in town.

Founded by Scott Sartiano, Zero Bond has become one of New York's most coveted networking clubs, where photography is prohibited and privacy is valued.

If you are considering setting foot in Zero Bond, you will only be able to do so if the strict membership committee says yes.

Prospective members must apply and survive committee review before paying annual dues that start around $3,850 plus initiation fees.

Not all Knicks celebrations were held behind a membership card.

A popular see-and-be-seen restaurant in midtown Manhattan was closed this week for owing more than $1.3 million in taxes, records show.

On Tuesday, a bright orange sign was taped to the door of Kiki's, announcing that it had been repossessed by the state for nonpayment, but the Greek restaurant apparently continued operating across the street.

The owners of the popular Division Street restaurant, frequented by the likes of Timothée Chalamet and other celebrities, apparently stopped paying their bills in July 2024, records show.

There are 12 separate tax warrants open for Chinatown Greek Food Services, an LLC that includes Kiki, totaling $1,064,793.25.

Owners Pavlos Sierros and Kiki Karamintzas also have their own outstanding personal income and sales tax balances for a combined total of $317,290.

But on Kiki's front door, next to the orange New York State Department of Taxation and Finance impound sign, was a sign assuring customers that the business was still “open across the street.” The Post was unable to reach Sierros for comment, but staff told Grub Street that Kiki's was simply "open." The seizure devastated hipsters who flock to the restaurant seeking craft cocktails and outdoor seating, ideal for being seen in the trendy hub between the Lower East Side and Chinatown, famous for celebrity sightings.

It's reportedly a favorite of actor and Knicks fan Chalamet, who nicknamed the micro nabe "where the cool kids are." The hotspot, opened in 2015, does not have its own signage; instead, it continues to use the banner of the printing press of a Chinese company that preceded it.

Lines to eat at Kiki's can last more than an hour, and customers are willing to wait for the opportunity to taste classic Greek comfort food.

Fortunately for the hopefuls, sister restaurant Forgtmenot has not been affected by the seizure and is operating on the same block and apparently serving Kiki's customers.
